In pursuit of excellent teaching, Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) is now a trend among American universities. The core concept of SoTL is to allow teaching and learning to become the subject of research for teaching staffs in a higher education setting. On one hand, it emphasizes the importance of teaching and learning in mission of the university and incorporates that emphasis in the university’s research. On the other hand, it is hoped that through open and systematic research, the process of teaching and learning shall be improved.
CLTD offers grants to encourage faculty members to research course designs and teaching methods to improve teaching quality. All NTU full-time, adjunct, and project-based faculty members are eligible to apply for these grants; in groups or as individuals. The application period starts at the end of each semester, and all applicants shall apply within the allotted period announced on our website. The screening period shall last about 2-3 weeks (not including the pending period). From time to time, the Center shall announce topics of particular interest to encourage a deeper investigation on certain issues, e.g. teaching or curriculum reform. All teaching units and groups are encouraged to apply.
For those who are interested in applying, please download the application form and send it, along with your proposal (examples are provided), to our office. In addition, please provide an electronic copy to email@example.com.
